First Snow for solo guitar (2023)

First Snow for solo guitar was commissioned in 2023 by Guitar Foundation of America for the GFA Spotlight Series.  The piece was written for the young guitarist Vivian Wang, with whom I had the pleasure to work during the 2023 GFA Mentorship Program. Vivian's personality and playing style inspired this composition: a lyrical, jazzy first half leads into a lively section in the style of Brazilian samba.  The title was meant to invoke the calmness and beauty of the first snowfall of the year, followed by children's rambunctious play outside in the snow.

First Snow was premiered by Vivian Wang at the Guitar Foundation of America Convention in NYC in June 2023.
