Midnight Sun for double bass and guitar was commissioned by brothers Jack Unzicker (double bass) and John Unzicker (guitar). It is inspired by their childhood growing up in Alaska and the breathtaking natural beauty of the region. The title refers to the unique northern phenomenon of summer “midnight sun,” a dreamlike surreal experience of seeing the sun above the horizon at night. The double bass part is written in the solo tuning.
